After Care
For All Procedures
- 2-3 hours after your procedure, use the sterile sodium chloride cotton pads or cotton swab to gently dab and remove body fluids. Let air dry or pat to dry using a clean towel.
- For Feathered Eyebrows DO NOT use Vaseline, coconut oil or any other form of moisturizer until 5 days after the procedure to relieve itchiness, however you may choose to not use anything as the natural oils of the skin are sufficient enough for the healing process. This is to ensure the lines heal crisply and do not blur out.
- For all other procedures use moisturizer (Vaseline, Aquaphor, grapeseed oil, unscented moisturizer) immediately for 1 week.
- Avoid soaps/facial cleansers on the pigmented areas (wash around them), pat dry with a clean towel.
- When showering avoid using hot water (no steam) , and do not directly shower the treated area.
- For sleeping, be careful not to sleep facedown. Try to sleep on your back.
- DO NOT rub, scratch or pick any scab/crust along the tattooed area. Early removal of pigment crusts (scabs) may result in colour loss. Flaking is the natural process of your skin exfoliating away, this process can take 2-3 weeks – the longer the scabs stay on the better!
- DO NOT apply makeup on the pigmented area during the healing process. Please wait 10-14 days before doing so.
- Avoid swimming, soaking, steam bath, and facials for the 1st week.
- Avoid applying any Anti-Acne, Anti-Aging, Exfoliates or AHA/Glycolic Acid products to the tattooed area for at least 2 weeks. This will cause lost pigment.
- Avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds) during the healing process.
- Do not workout/sweat for at least 3 days after the procedure, for best results avoid sweating for 1 week.
- Do not have excess hair waxed, threaded, plucked, shaved (removed in any way) 3 days prior to the procedure and for 2 weeks post procedure.
Further Information for Eyebrows
- Gently dab the eyebrows using saline soaked cotton pads 2-3 hours after the procedure. Depending on time of day repeat this every 3 hours, allow to air dry. Day 2: clean brows with saline soaked cotton pads morning, afternoon, evening, and before you go to bed. Day 3-5: clean brows with pads in the morning and at night.
- The eyebrows may be swollen for the first few hours. The colour will look darker for the first 5 days until the scab flakes off. The colour will look bolder because there is excess pigment in the epidermis that will be lost during the 27-28 day initial healing process.
- After a few days the eyebrows may appear obscured/patchy due to tissue swelling and clusters of immune cells surrounding the pigment attempting to break it down. By about day 10-14 pigment colour will begin to bloom back as swelling disappears and the concentration of immune cells around the pigment reduce in number and begin to be replaced by longer term fixating structures.
- Around 28-42 days the tattoo will be healed and the final colour will be evident.
Further Information for Eyeliner
- Do not use mascara or eye shadow for the first 10 days. Do not disturb the lash roots.
- Eyelid will be puffy and swollen for the first few days, to reduce swelling you may ice several times a day (for approx. 10 min.) over the first 3 days to minimize swelling. Be sure to use a new, clean plastic Ziploc bag to contain ice. Using a blender to emulsify ice will make it easier to contour to eye area.
Further Information for Lips
- If you have EVER had a cold sore/fever blisters/herpes you MUST obtain prescription for Zovirox/Valtrex from your Doctor. Start prescription 3 days prior and continue for 3 days post procedure. Failure to pre-medicate may result in an outbreak which will compromise your results.
- The lips will look very intense and may become swollen for 2-3 days. Usually the scabs will peel off in about 3 days. During this time the colour will look quite pale, only the lip line will show a light colour. Be patient until the skin matures (about 1 month), at this point you will see a more natural result.
- Use a straw to drink for the first few days. Avoid eating spicy and salty food to touch your lips for 2-3 weeks.
Further Information for Freckles/Beauty Marks
- You may apply ice for the first 12-24 hours to reduce any swelling. Be sure to use a new, clean plastic Ziploc bag to contain ice. Using a blender to emulsify ice will make it easier to contour to face area.
- Do not pick at scabs, this will result in loss of pigment. Apply gentle moisturizer to area if itchy.
- The freckle will appear significantly darker at first, this is due to excess pigment and blood.
Long Term Care – For All Procedures
- Use a good sunscreen daily on tattooed area(s) to prevent colour from fading faster. (Sunscreen is a girls bestfriend regardless!)
- Our pigment is Iron-Oxide based which your body will absorb slowly over time, causing the colour to fade. You may desire touch-ups every 1-3 years.
- If you are planning a chemical peel, MRI or other medical procedure, please tell the technician that you have an iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo.
- If you are planning to have laser treatment, tell you laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area. Laser may cause pigment to darken.
